Shop and Buy Local – Favorites

We have heard the phrases “Buy American” and more recently “Shop Local”. Why is that important? And what is really “local”?
There is growing enthusiasm towards boosting our (your) local economy.   By buying local goods, you maximize your money’s impact and minimize fuel use and CO2 production.  Local business owners tend to buy local services  like bookkeepers, advertising, and legal services.  Your dollars spent locally are recycled in your community.

Make your dollar count – more than once!

At Area Atlanta Real Estate we are about loving the area that we’re in and I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite areas along with favorite “local” places within those areas.   I have many local stores that I love!  I only chose one shop and one eatery in each area.  Please share some of your favorites.

My neighborhood – Virginia Highland

Green Pomegranate is a children’s clothing store where you will find one of a kind pieces made from beautiful recycled fabrics.  The shop owner lives in Atlanta, designs the clothing pieces, and has local people make them.  Stepping into the store is like stepping back to childhood.  It is the perfect place to find that special outfit for that special child in your life.

George’s is place where you can get a great burger at a great price in a casual setting.  There is nothing pretentious about George’s.  It has been locally owned, family run business since 1961.  Their burger is not only the best in Virginia Highland, it’s one of the best in town!

Inman Park

City Issue isn’t just any old furniture store.  The pieces are sources from 5 different buyers.  You’ll find great vintage and restored furniture, lamps, and other accessories at reasonable prices.  If you love the classic lines of Mid Century Modern furniture, then City Issue is a must stop.

Kevin Rathbun Steak incorporates local produce and organic meats into his menu.  It is one of the best steaks anywhere and I’m not the only one who thinks so.  Kevin Rathbun even beat Iron Chef Bobby Flay!

Morningside

Movies Worth Seeing is the perfect place to find the non Hollywood blockbuster (you can find some of those there too).  If you still have VHS player and want VHS movies, you can find them here.  Or perhaps you have a VHS movie, you can rent the player here.  You must know…one step inside and you’ll be hooked…the movie aficiondo lives!

Alon’s offers European yummy deliciousness in Morningside.  They use the freshest ingredients available to bring you melt in your mouth pastries and prepared foods.
