Old Fourth Ward
(Sweet Auburn)
The epicenter of Atlanta’s civil rights heritage and home to the Martin Luther King historical sites, “Sweet Auburn” is also an exciting and convenient place to live. With many new and renovated homes, duplexes, lofts and condos, this intown neighborhood is experiencing a renaissance.
Edgewood Avenue, Auburn Avenue, and nearby cross streets are currently seeing major renovations with new retail centers, townhomes, and mid-rise condos. Charming and sometimes historic industrial buildings are being converted into Atlanta’s most chic intown living spaces.
One of the first projects for the Beltline is happening in Old Fourth Ward. Here is a nice video of the park and plan - more also available on the link Crews are proceeding on phase I of the creation of Historic Fourth Ward Park near City Hall East….Read More…
One of the organizations to become involved in is the Historic 4 Ward Park Conservancy.
The Friends of Historic Fourth Ward Park is a group of individuals dedicated to the creation of an intelligently designed, useful and beautiful park in the North East corner of the Old Fourth Ward. The city of Atlanta has allocated 30 Million dollars towards the creation of a storm water pond retention system which will be the centerpiece of a 16 acre park.
This park is happening. Friends of Historic Fourth Ward Park would like to see that acreage increased to the original vision of over 35 acres with the park reaching North Avenue and City Hall to the North, and Freedom Park to the south. The Historic Fourth Ward Park will be one of the jewels on the proposed Beltlines ‘Emerald Necklace’.
Check out the Master Plan presentation.
The Old Fourth Ward is adjacent to downtown Atlanta, and easily accessible to I-75/85 and I-20. Home prices range from $100,000 to $700,000.
